We invite you to join fellow ADAMites and ColecoVision gamers from around the world for the 26th International Coleco ADAM Computer Convention (ADAMcon XXVI). The official Chairs are Rich Drushel and Erin Drushel (a.k.a. “Dr. D.” and “Ms. Rin,” respectively).
ADAMcon XXVI will be held at The Crowne Plaza Cleveland Airport in Middleburg Heights, Ohio (on the near west side of Cleveland) from July 17-20, 2014. The hotel is just a few minutes from the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (a free shuttle bus is available) and is easily accessible by car from the east, west, and south via major interstate highways.
ADAMcon XXVI will contain:
accompanied by the ever-present chronometric disturbance and sleep deprivation known as “ADAMcon time”
Full delegate rate is $500.00 US, double occupancy. Some meals are provided, including the Sunday-night banquet. Day passes are also available.
As always, we are looking for convention speakers, especially new voices, or at least old voices talking about different stuff than they usually do :-). Suggestions for topics are welcome.
ADAMcon is a great place to showcase the latest hardware and software developments in our hobby, especially on the ColecoVision side. If you’re interested in giving a presentation, or have something that you would like presented on your behalf, please contact the Chairman.
At ADAMcon XIII, we took a day trip to Dr. D’s Autonomous Robotics Laboratory at Case Western Reserve University, where we spent the afternoon building LEGO robots like those used in his LEGO robotics course. The 68HC11 microcontroller in the robot boards is in the same processor family as the 6801 microcontrollers in ADAMnet devices. Unfortunately, LEGO 375/475 came to an end in Fall 2004, and the lab space was repurposed sometime after 2008. Most of the undergraduate course materials, including the LEGOs and arena, were lost before Dr. D. could claim them. However, 6 kits used for a summer robot course (because they were stored elsewhere) survived. For ADAMcon XXVI, we are bringing these 6 robot kits out to the hotel, along with some vintage Apple computers to program them, to spend the afternoon building LEGO robots to compete in a “Robot Rumble”.
Some years we have been able to have a live video stream from ADAMcon. Quality has varied with the speed of the network connection at the hotel. Unfortunately, it did not work out this year. We did shoot some video of the LEGO robots and of the Mighty Mitchell Award™ championship round, which we may be able to post at some point. Of course, it’s best to attend ADAMcon in person!
The ADAMcon XXVI Home Page is maintained by
Dr. Richard F. Drushel,
a remnant of the venerable Cleveland B.A.S.I.C. users group, which hosted
ADAMcon IV (1992),
ADAMcon VIII (1996), and
ADAMcon XIII (2001).
